Our story
That means more than a century of expert car care for people in the North West, including building our own light aeroplane. Four generations on, the Burns family still runs the business on Canal Street.
Four generations
From Bobbie Burns in 1918 to his great grandson Robert today, the idea has never changed: look after every customer properly, and give great value for money.

1918
Robert 'Bobbie' Burns starts the business, with complete customer satisfaction at its heart.
1951
The company is incorporated as Burns' Garages Limited.
1998
Robert Burns joins the family business after training with Ford Motor Company in Essex. Neil Harrison joins the same year.
2005
Karl Totton joins from a Ford dealer in Stoke-on-Trent to run used car sales.
2016
Dave Bower FCCA joins as Company Accountant.
Today
Fourth generation main dealers: Subaru sales, used cars, Ford and Subaru servicing and parts on Canal Street.

Great grandson of the founder
Great grandson of Robert 'Bobbie' Burns, who started the business in 1918. Bobbie realised the importance of complete customer satisfaction, and Robert's number one objective is to ensure all of our customers receive the very best service and great value for money at all times. He has worked in the business since 1998, following training with Ford Motor Company in Essex. Married with two young boys: the fifth generation, perhaps?
New Car Sales Manager
Neil has been with us since 1998 and is the Subaru New Car Sales Manager. He has unbelievable product knowledge and a real enthusiasm for cars in general. Neil loves his customers, who return time and time again to buy cars from someone they can truly rely on.
Used Car Sales Manager
Karl joined Burns Garages from a Ford dealer in Stoke-on-Trent in February 2005. He ensures complete customer satisfaction within the department, hand-picking quality used cars prepared to the highest standards for resale. Repeat business is always welcome, and Karl and his team will make you feel welcome for your next purchase.
Company Accountant
Dave joined the team at Burns in 2016 and is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA). Dave and his team run the financial and administration systems, giving Robert the information he needs to keep the business as efficient as possible, which allows us to deliver continued value for money for our customers.
Parts Advisor
Mike has returned to Burns Garages in the parts department after a couple of years away at Mercedes and Ford. He brings a wealth of experience in both Ford and Subaru parts.
